The staff, mostly elder were extremely kind and welcoming. The food was some of the best food I have ever had in Japan. The rice of this prefecture is considerd to be a delicacy throughtout Japan so if you get the chance to go to the restaurant during harvest season (autumn) you can really taste autumn 食べながら涙がポロポロ、そんな美味しかった

A meal I’ll always remember from my travel to Niigata. It was so yummy especially the rice! The cold vegetables were also very refreshing. Obachans were so cute and friendly. Thank you for the meal!

I went there on 8/4 ( Friday, the day after Nagaoka Matsuri ), with the phone reservation one week ago. The food was really good and I could eat the local food and fish with a good price. The Japanese local food served with fancy Japanese plate so the atmosphere was really good. I ordered lots of appetiser and side dishes, miso soup and rice. Also grape sour. The staffs were in shortage so I had to wait for little time for service Spent ¥8800/ 2 adults. English menu not available.

The classic Niigata restaurant. I remember I visited here 40 years ago. The place is long and deep, has many chair seating and many tatami seating in the back. Looks authentic old fashioned restaurant. Food is very good. Priced moderately, service is quick and efficient. I went there for lunch, but they have a large drinking menu. I would like to visit here at night sometime soon. They will give you parking coupons if spend more than 4000 yen.

My first real experience with this sort of sappy meshi. Basically they sell a few different kinds of “sets” and I think I went for the one that was sort of the “basic” set without roe, with an order of sashimi (can’t remember the exact whitefish it was). Zero complaints about the food, it felt fresh and very clean, if not exactly rich. But the accompanying soup, katsu and fried tofu help round out the rice and fish. Sake doesn’t hurt either.

Delicious meal at an affordable price. The only downside is that it was a bit quiet, maybe they could play some music.

Highlight of niigata. Very good value for money steamed seafood rice. Nice variety and very fresh. Steaming the rice with the seafood elavates both the seafood and the famous Niigata rice. Please also try their deep friend and grilled dishes as they were all good as well.

If you only have one meal in Niigata, this is no doubt the place to go. The building and settings inside is very traditional. The mixed seafood steamed rice was so good that we went twice in our 5 day’s visit. You can choose just the steamed rice or add ¥400 (lunch) and ¥700 (dinner) for set with 3 side dishes also very delicious. In case you go in winter time, then really must try their grilled oyster with butter (seasonal menu), they tasted so creamy and delicious and we also encored it in our second visit.
